Want a Better Life? Ask Better Questions.

The quality of your life is measured by the quality of your questions.

Are you asking the right questions?

This has been one of my revelations this year. I've been collecting "guiding questions" that I can quickly reference to put my mind into the right space.

For example:

  • How does this help me think?

  • Whose task is this?

  • What's the next action?

I recently took a few free classes with Khe Hy. He emphasizes asking ourselves high leverage "$10,000 questions." These are the type of questions that inspire and enable us to manifest our best lives.

One question I explored this week came from Khe Hy's weekly review demo:

"Where did I come alive?"

This past weekend was one of the best that I can remember in a long time. Tiffany and I took Cadence to a heavily trafficked trail along a local river. Unlike the stoic baby that greets us in the stroller, she was strapped to my chest and screaming gleefully at every person and (especially) every dog that walked by. It was so much fun.

We boldly took the baby out to dinner - for the first time. And, again, we had a great time.

No distractions. Nature. Exercise. Quality time with family.

Absolutely perfect day.

On Sunday, I woke up early and ran a 12k, my first race in two years. I'd gotten the invite from a friend and finally took him up on the offer.

Filled with anxious energy, I hit the trail and just let my body take over. Running in flow, I felt a few tweaks as my body adjusted to the hard effort but surged through the finish like a force of nature.

While the race was great, the better decision came after the race. I had signed up for a webinar on a topic I was interested in and probably could've attended if I was efficient.

Instead, I opted to linger at the race and invest in a relationship with a friend. It feels good when I live out my values, especially with the lows of the last two years.

It was a perfect weekend.

Reflecting on that question for just three minutes, I know where I need to prioritize more time and effort for the life I truly desire. It also leads to the next steps…more questions:

  • How do I make that repeatable?

  • How do I create the space to be fully present in the moment?

Are you asking yourself the right questions?

When is the last time you came alive?

A daily writing habit, even a short stream of consciousness might be the key to helping to "achieve alignment with the creative energy of the universe.”
